I'm always looking for DIMMABLE, high-efficacy lighting options. I bought these at Home Depot and would have sworn they are CCFL for the performance. I've never seen a dimmable CFL that works this well.
My experience is that they need 10-20 seconds to get to full intensity, but when full intensity is reached, I cannot tell that it's not incandescent light. Like all dimming fluorescents I've tested, the color temperature is relatively cold at low-level dimming, but I haven't experienced any flickering (down to 10%), flashing, or buzzing.
I'm lighting a 15' x 25' area with 8 of these in 6-in cans. That's only 160W. Spectacular!
The only reason I derated the quality/dependability is because I used a pole-style light bulb changer to remove one from the recessed can fixture and the glass broke from the torsion. The underlying lamp still works though and I use it now in a table lamp.

How can this bulb be "recommended" for can or recessed fixtures but right above that it says "warning, not for recessed fixtures"???????
You really need to look at your specs before posting them.

When dimmed, the bulbs tend to be noisy. Takes 1 - 3 minutes for bulbs to warm-up to full intensity
