OK, a bad review and I submitted this to Phillips, but was shocked when Phillips sent me a full refund - no kidding. I included the link to this site in my complaint and am still amazed a corporation today would stand behind its' name and product to rectify this situation without a lot of extra forms, return of product, etc. All I can say is that I will be buying Phillips products again based on their integrity - I am even going to try their dimmable CFL at Home Depot again. Again, I am impressed - my hats off to Phillips, I just get a feeling GE would never do this.

Bought 6 of these 2 years ago for a basement family room that saw little use. Light quality was nice at first, when they worked. Returned one to Home Depot within 2 weeks for flickering/buzzing. About 6 months ago lost one, then one of the globes fell off another. Just went downstairs and 2 more are out. 8000 hours, yeah right - can anyone say recall needed? Do not buy these. Replaced with incandescent.

We replaced 12 recessed lights on dimmers in our kitchen one month ago. After trying out several brands, the Philips dimmables were the top of the list for color, dimming and size that we had tried so far. We were really looking forward to a measurable drop in power usage with this last high usage area converted.

All was fine until yesterday, the glass cover dropped from one of the lights, hit the granite island below with tiny glass shards everywhere. This does not speak well for the quality/reliability of this product, as well as a real concern for safety.

Have contacted Philips and they are very good wrt to warranty support so money back is no issue. Since this is the third review on this site reporting the same problem since the beginning of the year, we have removed all 12 CFL's and reinstalled the old incandescents to avoid a safety issue, expecially with toddler grandchildren that visit. I particularly do not want to be showered in glass as I drink my morning coffee.
Awaiting Philips Lighting feedback on their problem with a solid fix to their process/materials or we find another vendor or alternate solution.

Bought 11 about a year ago. One failed immediately. Three more failed since. One of those failures was the glass cover dropping our of the fixture over my kitchen sink... exactly onto the granite in front of the sink. The glass fractured into a million small pieces that cover a radius of about 10 feet. My wife, my dog, and I were all quite suprised. Also, covered with glass.

I get some buzz at low light levels. It takes a while for them to warm up. Nice color and brightness level.

I'm going to look for these receipts.

They have been useful in that they reduce the wattage pulled in my kitchen. My builder hooked up about 20 wall outlets, and 18 lights to the same breaker. With incandecents in the cans, the breaker blows. These stay on.

Bought eight of these to replace my recessed kitchen floods about a year ago. First failed two months after installing. Two more have failed since. 3 out of 8 failures in a year is terrible, considering that I could have purchased a half dozen conventional floods for the cost of each, and the conventional floods would have lasted longer. The failure rate wipes out any cost savings from lower energy use.

And yes, they buzz and flicker when dimmed.

Liked the color and low noise (no noticeable buzzing), but I installed 6 and had two fail within 6 months. I was getting about two years out the incandesent in the same location.

I have 9 recessed can lights in my TV room. I'm replacing the incandescent lamps with dimmable Cfl. A little slow coming to full light but not overly distracting. No buzzing that I notice and the light quality is good for my application. My big issue is Quality/ Dependability. Supposedly good for 8000 hours which if run continuous would be about 11 months, I've replaced two of them after just 2 months and of course I threw the receipts away. What really raised the flag on quality is when the glass outer dome fell off nearly landing on my daughter. The adhesive must have softened from the heat dropping the glass 8 feet to the floor. It didn't shatter but it did scare my daughter enough to start watching TV in another room. Any recalls on these lamps!?

I bought 4 of these for my new remodled den and in 3 months all have failed. Phillips, to their credit, did refund my purchase price and tax, so they do have good customer service. That said, there seems to be a recurring problem with this design, so I would not recommend them.

I bought 4 of these junk bulbs 3 months ago, the second one failed today.
They flash on and off on the dim setting. Just great if you are looking for strobe lighting! I am taking this one back to Home Depot. The next one to fail will result in my returning ALL of them and never buying another Philips product. Noisy and unreliable...did I mention EXPENSIVE??

we installed 10 in july 2007 and the 3rd one in 7 months has just given out. they do buzz when dimmed which was frustrating since i had to convince my husband to go with cfl's. however it is the extremely short life span which i find appalling due to high price and now the issue of disposal due to mercury - argh!!!! i will be contacting phillips.

I've had these 6 of these bulbs for about two months now, The power company had a promotion on which gave you $4.00 off each bulb that sells for about $15.00 and not really impressed by them so far,2 have blown and Home Depot did replace with no problems. They also don't dim as low as the incandescent one's do and if you turn the dimmer down to low they will start to flicker about 2min after you sit down and you'll have to get back up and turn the switch up a notch, Were getting used to it though. I hope the get better soon because were all about using less energy.

These things are really good. I bought and tried a half dozen R30's as I have extensive home automation and dimmers and I'm very picky about the color temperature of my lighting.

These win hands down in every category. I'll need about 40 of these to get the high use areas of the house switched over so my biggest problem is finding these in stock at this point. I pick up 1 or 2 at Home Depot when they get them in stock because that's all they have left when I get there. Puget Sound Energy was running a $4/bulb instant rebate through Dec so that made these $6.95/each. I've been running 10 of them for 3 months now.

I got 1 that buzzed and I took it back.

I bought 6 of these Philips R30 bulbs and 3 have failed in less than 2 months. The reliability is simply unacceptable - and at a price approximately 4 times that of a non-dimmable. Shame on you Philips.

I have found these to be excellent. We are using them with relativly new dimmer switches and they work very well. No buzzing, they dim greatly (down to 20% of max?) They dim better than the GE's which we also use and find are quite good.

This bulb has a number of significant flaws. It takes over a minute to come up to full brightness, it hums, and it hums very loudly when dimmed. Also, the color rendition is much poorer than an incandescent. I would not recommend this bulb. I have many CFLs installed in my home, but this bulb was a real disappointment, espacially from a quality company like Philips, and at a premium price of $12 per bulb.
