I reviewed these bulbs a week ago. After writing the review, I called Phillips and received a great response. I explained the problem with the outside bulbs falling to the floor--three out of five. They refunded the money for all five bulbs (including tax) and sent a prepaid Federal Express label to return the broken bulbs. They do stand behind their products and truly respect the consumer. They feel that the bulbs we purchased were from the same batch.

We have purchased six of these lights within the last two weeks. Three have shattered--sometimes when the lights are not even on. Why? I think Home Depot is getting a little weary on replacing them. I will also send a message to Phillips. Something is definitely wrong with these lights. Expensive and very troublesome.

I installed the Marathon to provide dim capability. They worked ok, until the first one expired. Interestingly, the base warms up even though. This fluorescent idea stinks in practice--expensive and full of mercury.

Geez, purchased one and worked fine...FOR ONE DAY. Now it doesn't even come on. Tried in two separate sockets.
Purchase at your own risk.

Replaced all of my recessed lighting one year ago with Phillips CFLs. 18 of them are the dimmable kind. When I dim them they flicker. Three have stopped working. I am not satisfied with this product.

These bulbs are great at first...until they start dying on you. First, they start flickering at "dim" settings. Then they start buzzing (actually, a high-pitched whine). Then they start flickering randomly. Then you take them out because they are driving you crazy. I purchased six of these for the home and three of them have died in less than a year.

Installed nine such in February of 07. Two have already burned out. Emails to Phillips have been ignored. Average daily use about 8 hours except May thru Oct. when they are not used. Phillips needs to reengineer or trouble shoot their manufacturing. AND they need to be more responsive to consumer problems.

We use fluorescents pretty much throughout the house and they work fine - we have adapted to the 30 second warm-up times. However, this flood lamp takes from 2 to 3 minutes to develop useful light. When turned on if it has not been warmed up, the light is extremely dim. I don't understand this since it seems the bulb is just an ordinary fluorescent encased in the envelope of a floodlight. A I have had to replace this bulb with ordinary tungsten bulbs. ny thoughts on how I can get better performance?
