Well, I've had a few of these CFLs burn out, and this time I wanted to be more scientific about it and look up the part number on the net. Wow, glad I did. The one I had fail today sounds like some of the others, with blackened area around base of where a tube goes into the CFL body. We just noticed it would not turn on, we heard nothing and smelled nothing. The bulb was in a totally exposed socket (not enclosed fixture) mounted sideways, not on dimmer or three way switch. The specification above indicates this is to be used for "table lamp" applications. Perhaps the orientation should be vertical instead of sideways with these. If so, WHY NOT have a this side up arrow, etc?
2 year warranty?! I think it worked 6 months. No, I don't have my reciept. Mailing it back to Feit Electric or whoever they are would surely cost more than getting another one. Just found some dimmable CFLs the other day, maybe they will be more dependable in non-dimming applications.
I'll be watching for the model number bulb and products by Fiet Electric, and making sure I never get any of them or their stuff again. |
